ABOUT US

Our Story

Gangstas to Growers (G2G) was founded with a vision to transform lives and communities through sustainable agriculture. Established in 2016, our social enterprise emerged from the recognition that many at-risk and formerly incarcerated youth face significant barriers to employment and empowerment. We believe that everyone deserves a second chance and the opportunity to thrive.

Through our innovative approach, we are building worker-owned cooperatives that not only provide jobs but also foster a sense of community, responsibility, and self-sufficiency. Our program is designed to empower youth by teaching them essential skills in agriculture, entrepreneurship, and leadership.

Our Mission

At Gangstas to Growers, our mission is to end the cycle of poverty within our community by creating accessible opportunities for employment and empowerment in agriculture.
We aim to:

  • Support a Black-run food system: We prioritize collaboration with Black-owned farms and local communities to promote economic sustainability and food justice.
  • Provide a space for healing: By offering mentorship and support, we help our participants heal from past traumas and build a brighter future.
  • Reduce recidivism: We strive to provide a pathway that leads away from incarceration and towards a fulfilling life through education and skill-building.

Our Vision

We envision a world where at-risk youth have the resources, skills, and support necessary to become leaders in their communities. Our goal is to create a network of empowered individuals who not only contribute to their families but also uplift their neighborhoods through sustainable practices and cooperative business models.

Our Programs

Our current projects include hands-on training in seeding, growing, harvesting, and even product creation. A highlight of our offerings is the Sweet Sol hot sauce, made from ingredients grown and harvested by our youth. This product not only infuses flavor into your meals but also directly supports our program and the young people involved.

Success Stories

Our success is measured not just in numbers but in the lives we touch. Since our inception, we have harvested over 500 pounds of food, serviced 25 Black-owned farms, and celebrated 9 graduates who have taken their first steps towards a sustainable future. One of our graduates, Raekwon Smith, shares, "Before I got involved with Gangstas to Growers, I was in the streets. The experience taught me that I can grow food myself because I’ve seen it done. I have the power."
